The most magical parts of this unique and fragile ecosystem can be found in the details. Each time I visit the páramo I am rewarded with a new discovery. A different flower is blooming. Catepillars cross my pathway carrying dew drops on their backs. An eagle sours overhead and a hummingbird flies to her nest unaware of my presence. Some people march on so fast, trying to prove that the altitude doesn't affect them, but it's when you stop to catch your breath, that you start to notice the unexpected. Next time you are in the páramo get close to the ground, feel the leaves, drink the water and admire the small things around you. After all, they're what makes this place so special.
